Most Anticipated Games of 2012

2012 is nearing its end with only 4 months to go and it is usually the time when most AAA titles hit the shelves. However, with most of the big titles being pushed back to 2013, gamers are left with a very limited number of games to look forward to. Below is a list of potential blockbusters that will be released this year.

1) Resident Evil 6: The sixth installment in the mega popular survival horror series is due on October 2nd. Resident Evil 6 will feature 4 player co-op as well as 4 different single player campaigns each having a different main character! Leon form Resident Evil 4, Chris from Resident Evil 5, Ada Wong from Resident Evil 4 and a new comer Jake. Each single player campaign will have its own unique and distinctive style e.g. Leon’s campaign mainly focuses on the survival aspect and Jake’s campaign is more action oriented and Chris’s campaign is a mix between the two. Capcom has made some big improvements to the gameplay; unlike previous games in the series, this time around players will be able to move and shoot simultaneously and perform special moves like shooting charging to enemies by rolling onto their backs. With nearly 50 hours of single player campaign and at least 2 competitive multiplayer modes, Resident Evil 6 will be the biggest game in the series and it is definitely the one to keep an eye on.

2) Assassin’s Creed 3: Assassin’s Creed 3 is without doubt one of the most anticipated game of 2012. Assassin’s Creed 3 will take place during American Revolution and will feature a new protagonist named Connor. A half Native American and half British assassin! The game is developed using next iteration of Anvil engine called Anvil Next, capable of creating large dynamic landscapes, the likes of which has not been seen in a video game yet. Apart from upgrading the game engine, Ubisoft has also made some radical changes to the core gameplay mechanics. The combat is now more free-flowing and offers extra freedom in dealing with enemies. Players now have the option to hide in bushes and use cover, much like a third person shooter game. Assassin’s Creed 3 allows the gamers to pick and select side quests in an RPG fashion and the game will also feature small towns, villages and outposts giving fans plenty of reasons to explore its beautifully rendered world. For the first time in the series, tree and cliff faces will be climbable and players will also go through building’s interior while free running. Assassin’s Creed 3 is Ubisoft’s biggest game to date and is the biggest hitter of 2012

3) Dishonored: Set in the Victorian steam punk city of Dunwall (loosely based on late 1800s London), Dishonored is the latest offering from Arkane Studios, the developers behind games like Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Dishonored will have the players assume the role of empresses body guard Corvo who after being falsely accused of murdering the empress turns in to an assassin to exact revenge on those who framed him. In Dishonored, players will have access to a large array of weaponry e.g. Crossbow, Sword and Wheellock pistol along with supernatural powers like Blink (teleportation), Possession, Time Bending and summoning a swarm of rats. All of these elements combined make up for a unique and a fantastic game that allows players total freedom in how they want to accomplish any task. The game bears some resemblances to previous classics like the original Deus Ex and Thief, in how it plays and looks with plethora of new and original ideas thrown in for good measures.

4) Halo 4: Halo 4 is the biggest console exclusive of 2012. Being developed by 343 Industries, Halo 4 looks like it will be the best looking Halo game to date. Set after 5 years of Halo 3, the game will once again feature fan favorite Master Chief as the main character as he will come face to face with both covenant and new enemies. Halo 4 will include some new features such as new weapons, enemies and abilities like Promethean Vision enabling Master Chief to see enemies through cover. The game will also have an all new multiplayer mood and would also incorporate Spartan Ops which is an episodic co-op campaign that is separate from the main campaign. Overall, Halo 4 looks like a solid addition to the franchise and would be something gamers will rave about for a long, long time to come.
